The codes of strict justice helped to shape out the political thoughts. The code helped politicians know how to punish people properly instead of harsh and unfair ways. Basically, if the person committed a small sin, he would not get punished that badly, but if the person committed a horrible deed, then he would have a horrible and fair punishment.
Hammurabi's code helped structure the government of the Empire of Hammurabi. It talked about using harsher punishment to try and have a stricter empire in order to prevent conflict. It made people realize that when they had a stricter government, there would be less crime. For example, Law 195 says "If a son strike his father, his hands shall be hewn off." The empire created these 282 laws to convince people to not commit crimes and it worked. The society in Mesopotamia was partrirchal, which meant that men had power over women. Which also meant that women had harsher punishments then men did. The code basically helped tell the leaders how to repremand someone if they did something wrong.
Over time, we have adapted the code and twisted it to fit in our society; we have made the punishments less harsh, but generally the code gave the government an outline or guide on how to be equal in giving punishments. It gave politics ideas on how to properly punish those who wronged. Hammurabi's code is the most complete record of ancient law.
Hammurabi's code influenced the way people thought about the order of their society. It showed how organized a civilization could be, and how a ruler could control their people. With laws out in the open for all to see, each citizen knew his place in society and did their best to abide by the rules for fear of intense punishment.
Hammurabi's code were strict laws that everyone had to follow and if they did not they were punished. The laws were written down and so everyone could see them so they would not be punished for a rule they did not know they broke. We based our laws like that. Everyone needs to know the laws and will be punished if not followed. The severity of the punishment is based on the law broken -Camille Serlin

Although hammurabi's code gave much more extreme punishments, it taught us that every crime must have its own punishment. Today, we have taken the code and twisted it to be much more fair, our judicial system no longer bases trials on the persons race or social class. -Jessi Rivin
